LUCKY TWICE

~A TRUE LOVE STORY THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH AND CRY~

Nonfiction

I always told Paul, my husband of thirty-five years, “If I die and you meet someone new – get married. Don’t be alone.” But I always added one condition. “Just make sure you don’t give that bitch one more cent then you would give me.”

He would never reciprocate; maybe he couldn’t bear to imagine me in the arms of another man. Even when he was diagnosed with cancer, he couldn’t bring himself to say the same to me. It wasn’t until he was in hospice, three days before his death, that he gave me the gift: permission to remarry.

This is a story of losing everything you hold dear. It is a story of finding yourself alone in the world, staying strong, and finding love again. In a few short years, I lost not only Paul but both of my dear parents.

From the first page of Lucky Twice, I was captivated by Debbie and Allen’s stories. Their love story, told with wit and charm, touched me deeply. Debbie and Allen share intimate details of what it’s like to experience a first true love, to be supportive through ill health, ultimately to lose these life partners and then be open to seeking love a second time. They describe their paths from childhood to marriage without glossing over the tough times. Their openness and honesty are inspiring. This book is a must-read for everyone, especially for those of us who need a boost in the courage to be lucky twice.

Stories about perseverance encourage all of us! There is the old adage, “Where there’s life there’s hope and where there’s hope there’s life.” Inspiration is the essence … in spirit! It’s like a good book and good songs, and believe me I know from good songs. I’m honored and flattered that art serves our family, friends, and fans to keep passion and compassion for each other. Through love and caring, keep reading, singing, and dancing.

– Eddie Brigati, from the Rascals, and his lovely wife Susan and family
